Solidarity Salvages Flood Victim

Tuesday, July 1, 2014

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)When a recent storm flooded out a member of SEIU Local 722, she turned to the Community Services Agency for help. “Her kids all had bedrooms in the basement and the flood destroyed clothes and other household items,” says CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. Insurance would only pay for drywall replacement, so CSA connected the family to the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District 51, which donated 10 gallons of paint from their apprenticeship school.  CSA also referred the family to other resources for clothes and household items. “We are so blessed to receive these donations. Now we can start getting back to normal,” said the grateful Local 722 member.  “Thank you!” Added McKirchy, “This is truly solidarity in action!  Many thanks to IUPAT District 51 and the Finishing Trades Institute!” For details about how to contribute to CSA’s Emergency Assistance Fund, contact kmckirchy@dclaborarchives.org
