Federal Workers Seek to Give Back at AFGE Local 32 Union Fair
Friday, October 21, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Despite high winds threatening to blow fliers in every direction, AFGE Local 32
held its annual Union Fair at Rawlins Park in downtown DC yesterday to encourage
union members to participate in the ongoing Combined Federal Campaign. A live
band made up of workers from US OPM, whose workers AFGE 32 represents, playing
Motown favorites could be heard blocks away, drawing federal workers out of
their offices and down to the fair to learn how they can support community
organizations. Kathleen McKirchy, Executive Director of the Community Services
Agency (CSA), who has participated in the Local 32 fair for years, was on hand
to talk to federal workers about how the agency promotes “Workers helping
Workers,” as the CSA flyer explains. CSA delivers emergency assistance to
families of union members in need. “It’s the union’s way of encouraging
their members to support CSA and the Combined Federal Campaign,” says
McKirchy. “We exist thanks to people’s generosity.” Click
