Wednesday, October 12, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Occupy DC activists will connect with local union members this afternoon in a
major solidarity march linking three ongoing campaigns. The march kicks off at
3:30p at Freedom Plaza, where Occupy DC just got its permit extended for four
months, then goes up 14th St to the National Labor Relations Board, which is
currently under attack from Republicans in Congress. The march then continues to
the L Street (& 17th) Verizon store for a solidarity stop with the CWA and
IBEW workers fighting for a contract, and then moves on to Farragut Square at
4:30 pm (17th and K St., NW) to support SEIU32BJ’s “Office Building Cleaners
Stand Up for Good Jobs!” demonstration – which is expected to be massive --
and invite them to the occupation in Freedom Plaza. NOTE: Occupations are
ongoing in both McPherson Square (click
