DC CLUW Honors Jeter, Johnson & Love
Tuesday, June 14, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The namesake of the Gloria T. Johnson Awards attended this
year’s luncheon last Sunday, speaking out eloquently and forcefully about the
impact of the current attacks on the American labor movement. Gloria Johnson,
one of the most prominent labor leaders in the United States and a long-time
advocate for women's and civil rights, was on hand Sunday to help the DC Metro
CLUW chapter celebrate its past, present and future. Johnson also praised
the chapter on its “growth and sustainability.” This year’s honorees
included Jackie Jeter, President of ATU Local 689, Dr. Loretta Johnson,
Executive VP of AFT and Sheila Love, President Emeritus, DC Metro CLUW, who
passed away this past February and was honored posthumously. Love was an
integral part of DC Metro CLUW and also one of the creators of the Gloria
Johnson Awards. Entertainment was provided by African Dance Group A.N.A.D.A.D.,
which includes DC Metro CLUW Treasurer Brenda Savoy as a member. - report/photo by Lillian Walker Shelton
