Metro Council Board, Staff Updates
Thursday, May 19, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The Executive Board Monday night accepted – with regret –
the resignation of UFCW Local 400’s Mark Federici, who is now
the local’s Secretary-Treasurer. “Mark has been a steadfast brother during
his years of service on the Board and his incisive input has been critical to me
during that time,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams (at right). At
the recommendation of UFCW 400 President Tom McNutt, the Board voted unanimously
to appoint Tony Perez (at left in photo) to serve the remainder
of Federici's term on the Board, which runs through February 2012. “If anyone
can fill Mark’s shoes – and perhaps even stretch them a bit -- it’s Tony,
another longtime friend, brother and strong ally in the metro area labor
movement,” said Williams. The Board also voted to declare former WTU 6
President George Parker’s seat vacant and to appoint new Local 6 President
Nathan Saunders to serve the remainder of Parker’s term.
“Nathan is a vibrant labor activist and leader,” said Williams, “given the
critical role of teachers in the ongoing battles in the public sector, I’m
looking forward to working shoulder to shoulder with him as well.” Williams
also reported that Assistant Mobilizer Adam Wright will be
leaving the Metro Council staff next month. “After a few short years, during
which he’s become a valued member of the Council’s staff who’s contributed
tremendously to the growth and effectiveness of the Union Cities program, Adam
feels it’s time to move on. I thank him for his commitment, dedication and
enthusiastic support for the Council’s work and know that he’ll continue to
work to improve the lives of working people. We wish him all the best.”
