This year, DC Jobs with Justice’s annual “I’ll Be There” awards – which honors individuals and organizations for “exceptional solidarity work in the Metro DC area” while raising funds to support DC JwJ – is scheduled for Thursday, June 23 at the AFL-CIO. Honorees include local musician and activist Head Roc; members of UFCW who were active in the Walmart RespectDC campaign; Sarahi Uribe (National Day Laborer Organizing Network, speaking at right); and the University of Maryland Drop Daycon coalition. “Please join DC JwJ in honoring these activists and other victories in the fight for worker justice,” says DC JwJ’s Lillian Walker Shelton. “We hope you will consider attending this event and supporting it by purchasing an ad in our program book.” The deadline for camera-ready ads is June 11; email lshelton@dclaborarchives.org for sponsorship details and for more information. - photo: condemning Arizona’s passage of the ‘Secure Communities’ program as “racist and perverse,” dozens of labor, community and immigrant rights activists – including Sarahi Uribe – spoke out forcefully about the dangers of collaboration between local police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in April 2010; photo by Adam Wright
