Seeking to equip labor leaders with the skills to become “effective advocates for sustainable workplaces,” the National Labor College recently announced the first course in the Green Workplace Representative Certificate Program, a four-week curriculum that will enable Green Workplace Representatives to “become leaders in the field of climate change and workplace sustainability.” The NLC says that students who enroll in this course will learn how to conduct workplace sustainability audits, which can save energy and water, reduce waste, use environmentally-friendly products, recycle materials, maintain employee health, adopt clean technologies and reduce carbon emissions – all while retaining good jobs at family-sustaining wages.   Additional topics include green building design and construction, building labor-management sustainability partnerships; and the labor movement's role in the green economy.
