SAMs Workers Continue Public Fight For Justice
Monday, May 9, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Downtown Safety/Hospitality and Maintenance workers are taking
their fight for a union to the streets again this week, with noontime
demonstrations planned for Tuesday and Wednesday outside Downtown BID’s
headquarters on H street, NW. “Since the SAMs voted for the Machinists union
in July 2009, their employer Downtown BID has used every move in the
union-buster’s playbook to stamp out the voice of their employees,” says
Cory Bythrow, National Communications Coordinator for the National Federation of
Federal Employees-IAM. “Now they are spending thousands of tax dollars on
union-busting attorneys to file baseless lawsuits and undermine the union’s
support among employees.” Watch Union City for updates. –
