Labor contributed to Vincent Orange’s decisive election as an At-Large DC City Council member Tuesday. In addition to extensive District union voter identification efforts before the election, “more than 150 union members turned out to work the polls and get out the vote” for Orange on Tuesday, reports Alya Solomon, Assistant Political Coordinator for the Metro Washington Council, which endorsed Orange. “The election of Vincent Orange demonstrates that candidates who advocate and support a working family agenda can win," said Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO President Jos Williams. "Vincent Orange was not afraid to champion the cause of workers.” - photo: Vincent Orange displays his ballot with his name checked while voting at his polling station in NE; photo by Bill O'Leary/The Washington Post
