Farmworker/SAMs Doubleheader This Week
Tuesday, April 26, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
In two separate demonstrations this week, area labor rights
activists will rally to raise the standards and working conditions for
farmworkers and downtown Maintenance/Safety/Hospitality (SAMs) workers, who work
for DC's Downtown Improvement District (BID). On Wednesday
at 12P, activists will rally outside the British Embassy to protest
“horrific working conditions” for farm workers who harvest tobacco in the
South. Then, beginning at 8A
this Thursday, SAMs workers will rally outside the Newseum on
Pennsylvania Avenue for “justice, their union and a contract.” Watch
Union City for updates.
