TSOs To Decide Union In Runoff Election
Monday, April 25, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Because neither union received a majority of the votes in the
first union election for Transportation Security Administration officers - which
wrapped up on April 20 – last week the FLRA called for a runoff election
between AFGE and the NTEU, which is tentatively set for May 23-June 21 via
telephone and the Internet. “AFGE won the first round of a fierce contest
against a worthy opponent,” AFGE National President John Gage said. “We
expect to win the runoff election as well and are pleased that the FLRA has
cleared the way for a swift resolution to this process. I’m asking TSOs to
come out and vote for us one more time. We’re one step closer to bringing you
a better workplace.” In the first election, AFGE won the most votes –
8,369 –while NTEU union received 8,095 votes, and there were 3,111 votes for
no union. Area union members are encouraged to help get out the vote for AFGE by
talking with TSA officers at airports across the region and urging them to
“vote yes for AFGE.” Click here to
