Ward 4 To Deliver Anti-Walmart Petition Today

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Ward 4 residents will present over 1,000 signatures to the DC City Council today from their neighbors opposing a Walmart in their community. Walmart’s plans for a store in Ward 4 are “insensitive to the damage it would do to this community," said Gerri Adams-Simons of Ward 4 Thrives, which blasted Walmart for doing “nothing to address our concerns about poverty wages, the driving out of small businesses, and the traffic nightmare this will cause around the intersection of Georgia and Missouri Avenues." (Ward 4 Calls Latest Walmart Plan "Terrible") Dozens of residents rallied at the proposed site last week to demonstrate their opposition to Walmart's plans. The petitions will be delivered at the Wilson Building at 11a; mikewilson28@gmail.com for details. - Michael Wilson
