Friday, April 1, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
From a sermon to a major rally, book talk to teach-in and a
whole lot more (17 events and counting!), the local labor movement is mobilizing
around the national “We Are One” observances on Monday. Click
here for the complete listing of local events. The “We Are One”
movement has sparked hundreds of activities across the country – and even
abroad – to commemorate the struggle for workers’ rights on April 4, the
anniversary of the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis,
where he had gone to stand in 1968 with sanitation workers demanding their
dream: the right to bargain collectively for a voice at work and a better life.
Look for a special DC “We Are One” preview edition of Union City later on
today! There are also lots of workplace actions scheduled in the DC-area; click
