Stand With The Women Of Wal-Mart
Tuesday, March 29, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Wal-Mart workers and their supporters will speak out against
systemic pay discrimination at the world’s largest retailer at a rally this
morning at 9:30A on the steps of the Supreme Court. The court is set to decide
on whether to allow the workers’ class-action lawsuit to proceed. “Ten years
ago a group of women who worked at Wal-Mart stores filed a lawsuit alleging that
their employer engaged in company-wide sex discrimination, by paying women less
than men, promoting fewer women to management positions, and promoting male
employees more quickly,” say rally organizers – which include the Coalition
of Labor Union Women, the National Association of Working Women and others.
“The case - now a class action - has made its way to the Supreme Court; it's
important that we show them that they are not alone. Women deserve equal pay,
and with your help, we'll make sure this case gets the attention it deserves!”
