Stand With The Women Of Wal-Mart

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Wal-Mart workers and their supporters will speak out against systemic pay discrimination at the world’s largest retailer at a rally this morning at 9:30A on the steps of the Supreme Court. The court is set to decide on whether to allow the workers’ class-action lawsuit to proceed. “Ten years ago a group of women who worked at Wal-Mart stores filed a lawsuit alleging that their employer engaged in company-wide sex discrimination, by paying women less than men, promoting fewer women to management positions, and promoting male employees more quickly,” say rally organizers – which include the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the National Association of Working Women and others. “The case - now a class action - has made its way to the Supreme Court; it's important that we show them that they are not alone. Women deserve equal pay, and with your help, we'll make sure this case gets the attention it deserves!” Click here for details.
