Singing Out At The Metro Council

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

The DC Labor Chorus brought last night's Council meeting to its collective feet, as delegates joined hands and sang "We Shall Overcome" in honor of the ongoing struggles for justice by public workers across the community and country and to promote their upcoming Spring Concert on May 7. Also highlighted were the plans for a full day's worth of "We Are One" activities next Monday, April 4 to commemorate the anniversary of Martin Luther King's support for striking Memphis sanitation workers when he was assassinated on that date in 1968. All events are being posted on the Council's calendar. The Council delegates also adopted a recommendation by the Executive Board that the Metro Council endorse Vincent Orange in the DC At-Large City Council race. "Vincent Orange is the kind of solid, well-tested and experienced leader our city needs in these challenging times," said Metro Council President Jos Williams.
