Labor FilmFest Hosts Harry Shearer & His Film On New Orleans Disaster

Thursday, March 10, 2011

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Humorist and New Orleans resident Harry Shearer will screen his film "The Big Uneasy!" next week at the AFI in Silver Spring as part of the DC Labor FilmFest’s Whistleblower Series. Shearer (The Simpsons, etc.) gets the inside story from the people who were there when disaster struck New Orleans five years ago. In the film, screening at AFI on Tuesday, March 15, Shearer speaks to the investigators who poked through the muck as the water receded and a whistleblower from the Army Corps of Engineers, revealing that some of the same flawed methods responsible for the levee failure after Katrina are being used to rebuild the system expected to protect the new New Orleans. The evening includes a special post-screening discussion with filmmaker Harry Shearer, Maria Garzino (a whistleblower featured in the film), and POGO’s Danielle Brian. Tickets are $11, some discounts may apply. Purchase tickets in advance from AFI.
