Respect DC Campaign Keeps Up Pressure On Walmart
Tuesday, March 8, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The Living Wages, Healthy Communities Coalition “continued to
put pressure on Walmart this past week,” reports Michael Wilson, noting that
“opposition is growing in Ward
5, where Walmart submitted their Large Tract Review a few weeks ago.”
At a community meeting last week in ANC 5B, commissioners and residents
“grilled the development team about the suburban mall, pedestrian unsafe
design, and asked tough questions of Keith Morris from Walmart about the right
to organize and living wages,” says Wilson. The next coalition meeting is
tonight at 7p, at the AFL-CIO, where weekly phonebanks will be launched. “Come
early and make some calls!” urges Wilson. This weekend’s canvass will be at
ONE DC (614 S St NW) ; click
