Word is spreading fast about plans for local demonstrations supporting the Wisconsin workers. “It’s going viral,” said one organizer Monday as news came that workers, community and religious allies are organizing across metro Washington to turn out for the Wednesday demo at 12:30 as well as Tuesday’s noontime rally in Annapolis. A spontaneous march starting at 11:30a Wednesday is being organized from Dupont Circle to the rally site, passing by SEIU, AFSCME, the AFL-CIO and the U.S. Department of Labor. “What is going on in Wisconsin and other states ought to be seen for what it is,” writes Joseph McCartin, associate professor of history and director of the Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor at Georgetown University on the AFL-CIO Now blog, “a bald attempt to exploit the bad economy, undo 50 years of legal precedent on labor issues, and win a political victory, no matter the cost.” - photo courtesy Wisconsin State AFL-CIO blog
