“It is time for Daycon to stop violating Federal Labor laws, return our members back to work and negotiate a fair contract,” said Teamsters Local 639 President Thomas Ratliff after Daycon workers won a resounding victory last week when Administrative Law Judge Joel P. Biblowitz ordered the local cleaning products company to reinstate all the strikers, pay them back wages through last July and to rescind the changes Daycon had unilaterally imposed last April, sparking a strike by the members of Teamsters Local 639. “This is a victory for all labor,” Local 639 Business Agent Doug Webber told Union City. “Our members have stood strong to fight back the illegal tactics of Daycon.  I commend them for the struggles and hardships they and their families have endured for the past 10 months of being on strike.” In his decision, issued on February 15, Judge Joel P. Biblowitz ordered Daycon Products Company, Inc. to reinstate the employees and make them whole for any losses incurred because of the refusal to reinstate them earlier. The judge also found the company illegally subcontracted out work without negotiating with the union. He ordered the company to rescind any unilateral changes and to resume bargaining. – adapted from a report on the National Labor Relations Board’s website; photo by Chris Garlock
