(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Walter W. Wise (right) succeeded Joseph Hunt as the union’s president on Feb. 1. Wise, a Virginia native born in 1951, will serve the remainder of Hunt’s unexpired term, until the union convention in Chicago in mid-August.  Wise has not said if he will seek election to a full 5-year term. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Wise joined the Ironworkers in 1975 and became an organizer in 1997.  He rose through the union, culminating in two years as the union’s treasurer, followed by the past three years as its secretary. Hunt, of St. Louis, has been Ironworkers president for a decade. - photo courtesy Ironworkers' website
