Strikes, spares and the occasional gutterball were the order of the day at yesterday's 19th annual Bowling for Gold tournament. Leading the way was Bennie Irby (at right) of Teamsters 639, who bowled a perfect 300 game in the afternoon session at Crofton Bowling. The tournament raises funds for the Community Services Agency's Emergency Assistance Fund, which provides help for area union members in financial crisis. Hundreds of bowlers from dozens of area unions -- locals as well as internationals -- participated in the tournament. "It's really inspiring to see so many of our union brothers and sisters continuing to step up to help out those facing tough times,' said CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. Tournament winners -- and the total raised for the EAF -- will be announced soon. - photo by Chris Garlock
