(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Local hip hop artist and Grammy nominee Christylez Bacon (r) performs at a Jobs with Justice fundraiser tonight. Bacon is performing at Uptown Friday, a weekly showcase and fundraiser for progressive artists and organizations. Christylez is a multi-instrumentalist from Southeast, Washington, DC who multi-tasks between various instruments such as the West African djembe drum, acoustic guitar, and the human beat-box (oral percussion), while continuing the oral tradition of storytelling through his lyrics. Tonight’s event is also an opportunity to bid farewell to DC JwJ organizer Ruth Castel-Branco, who’s moving to South African to conduct a research project on the recent passage of a domestic worker bill of rights in her native Mozambique. The concert -- at Ras Cafe,4809 Georgia Ave., NW -- starts at 8:30P and will go until the early hours of the morning. For more information contact Ruth at rcastel@dclaborarchives.org or 202-9748-8281.
