A local community coalition is counting on the power of neighbor-to-neighbor communication to counter efforts by retail giant Walmart to open four stores in Washington. Living Wages, Healthy Communities, a coalition of labor, faith, environmental, and community groups, is kicking off a door-to-door canvassing push this weekend in the District. “We’ll be talking to our neighbors about the need for a strong, binding Community Benefits Agreement that addresses the concerns of DC residents, and ensures that Walmart respects our workers and communities,” says organizer Mike Wilson.
