Neighbors Organize To Demand Respect From Walmart
Wednesday, January 19, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
A local community coalition is counting on the power of
neighbor-to-neighbor communication to counter efforts by retail giant Walmart to
open four stores in Washington. Living Wages, Healthy Communities, a coalition
of labor, faith, environmental, and community groups, is kicking off a
door-to-door canvassing push this weekend in the District. “We’ll be talking
to our neighbors about the need for a strong, binding Community Benefits
Agreement that addresses the concerns of DC residents, and ensures that Walmart
respects our workers and communities,” says organizer Mike Wilson. Click here to sign up to
join the canvass this weekend. To stay up to date on the campaign, click
