Homebuilder's Flaws Exposed
Tuesday, January 18, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Where did $900 million go? That's what residential construction
workers want to know tomorrow when PulteGroup -- the nation's largest
homebuilder - comes to town. PulteGroup scooped up almost $900 million in tax
refunds that were supposed to help create jobs but has instead laid off workers.
Painters District Council 15 and the Sheet Metal Workers, along with the
AFL-CIO, invite local activists to join their 10:30A action
at tomorrow's meeting of the Mortgage Bankers Association where Debra Still, CEO
of Pulte Mortgage will be; at a similar demo last month (above) in Detroit, the
meeting was canceled at the last minute. Tomorrow's action is part of a national
campaign called Building Justice to hold the nation's largest homebuilder
accountable for its actions both in the financial arena and the market place.
The homebuilder has been dogged by reports of low quality, violations of
environmental regulations and worker complaints about failure to maintain wage
standards. - photo by Frank Hammer
