Tourists won’t find “Union Yes” keychains for sale at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) Gift Shop, but workers there want their union cards. AFSCME Council 26 filed a petition yesterday asking the Office of Compliance to conduct an election among the fifteen employees at the CVC Gift Shop. “This election will give Gift Shop workers the opportunity to join the CVC Guides and Visitor Assistants who successfully organized a union this past September and are currently represented by AFSCME Local 658,” said Council 26 Executive Director Carl Goldman. “Local 658 is off to a good start and has already won victories for its members.” The petition was signed by a majority of the covered workers. – photo by Bill O'leary/The Washington Post
