SEIU 32BJ Capital Area Director Jaime Contreras (r) and CWA District 2 Vice President  Ronald Collins (l) were named Progressive Maryland’s (PM) 2010 “Champions of Working Families” at PM’s 9th annual awards dinner last Wednesday night. Other honorees included U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, U.S. Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD-4), MD Senator Paul Pinsky and feminist and activist Catherine Poe. “Improving life for hard-working men and women in Maryland and in the region is a top priority for 32BJ,” said Contreras. “We’ll continue fighting to ensure our tax dollars only support the creation of good-paying jobs that help move more families into the middle class and rebuild our economy.” Collins, who’s taken a leadership role in CWA’s efforts to bring about health care reform at the national level and has promoted diversity in CWA’s leadership at local and national levels, has fought to maintain regulations that protect telephone consumers in Maryland.
