Washington Gas Unions Donate $4,000 In Toys

Washington Gas, Teamsters Local 96, IBEW Local 1900 and OPEIU Local 2 teamed up for this year’s Washington Gas Phil Alter Toys for Tots project, collecting and delivering four thousand dollars worth of toys to families at Bolling Air Force Base. Local 96’s Darryle Madison arranged for Sears to donate another 20% off of the sales price of toys purchased with cash donations. Phil Alter, Treasurer of Teamsters 96 when he unexpectedly passed away in September 2009 (Labor Passages: Teamster 96's Phil Alter) was an avid and longtime Toys for Tots volunteer, assisting in the coordinated efforts of Washington Gas and Kathleen McKirchy of the Metro Washington Council’s Community Services Agency to promote the Toys for Tots program. - report/photo by Joyce Putnam
