Labor Steps Up Giving In Time Of Need
Wednesday, December 15, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
When times get tough, labor digs deeper. In addition to the
Metro Council Community Services Agency’s annual Holiday
Basket program (email Kathleen McKirchy at kmckirch@dclaborarchives.org for
details and to contribute) for area needy families, other area locals and labor
groups are also getting in the holiday giving spirit. AFSCME locals
2910 and 2477 at the Library of Congress are
conducting a drive to benefit Bread
for the City, collecting personal care items for the Washington
organization that offers program services to low-income District residents,
including food and clothing, primary medical care, legal advice and
representation, and comprehensive social services (Saul Schniderman sasc@loc.gov for details). And OPEIU
Local 2 and Teamsters 96 teamed up again this year to
collect Toys for Tots at Washington Gas (Joyce Putnam laborladi@gmail.com). As previously
reported (CBTU-DC
Collects Cash, Food & More For Needy UC 12/14), the DC chapter of
the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists collected over $1,000 for CSA at last
Saturday’s reception and shoe box gift wrapping party (301-735-1984 to
contribute). To let us know what your local is doing, email us today at streetheat@dclaborarchives.org
