CBTU-DC Collects Cash, Food & More For Needy

Over a thousand dollars - $1,145 to be exact - worth of union
gift cards, as well as non-perishable food items, were collected for the Metro
Washington Council’s Community Services Agency at CBTU-DC’s annual year-end
reception and shoe box gift wrapping party last Saturday, December 11. And
nearly 200 shoe boxes were wrapped, stuffed and donated to Strive DC, a
non-profit career development center that assists the unemployed in Washington
obtain the skills, education and clothing needed to get and keep a job.
“Thanks to all who came and participated and shared good food, good fun and
good fellowship” said CBTU-DC President Gwend Johnson. Strive DC’s programs
include Core Strive, an intense 3-week basic job skills training course, Strive
for Success, a fast-track GED program for young adults 16-25, and Career Gear, a
clothing program for men in need of professional clothing. CBTU-DC is still
