On The Line In December
Wednesday, December 8, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
From charity drives to “hard-driving working class”
concerts, December is shaping up to be a busy month jam-packed with solidarity.
On Friday,
December 10 at 1P, hear from author Brigid O’Farrell on her new book,
“She Was One Of Us: Eleanor Roosevelt And The American Worker” at a
discussion hosted by the AFL-CIO. “She Was One of Us reveals - for the first
time - the story of Eleanor Roosevelt’s deep ties to the American labor
movement,” say event organizers. On Saturday,
December 11 beginning at 11A (not 4P as previously reported- our
apologies for the error), the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists DC Chapter will
host its annual shoebox gift-wrapping and reception, which benefits area
homeless shelters and nursing homes. “We are requesting that you bring gift
cards starting at $10 from Safeway, Giant, Shoppers or any other union
represented grocery store,” says DC CBTU President Gwend Johnson. “Please
join us to help those in need.” Get the latest local labor news and updates at
the Metro Council’s final delegate meeting of the year on Monday,
December 13 at 6P, followed immediately by the ‘Street
Dogs’ concert – featuring Mike McColgan, former front man for the
Dropkick Murphys – who will bring their hard-driving working class politics to
the AFL-CIO at 7P. Click
