BG&E Workers To Vote On Union

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. workers will vote on whether to join IBEW Local 1900 later this month. "All the employees are looking for is a written contract for their jobs," Local 1900 President John Holt told the Baltimore Sun recently. A contract would provide "a place at the table" for BG&E workers worried about their future at a company that has tried to merge or find a buyer at least three times in the past 15 years. BG&E is one of the few non-union utilities in the country. IBEW Local 1900 represents 1,700 members at PEPCO, Mirant Mid-Atlantic and Frederick Gas, and is affiliated with the Metro Washington Council. The election is set for December 16-17.
