Providing Relief For Struggling Families
Friday, November 19, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Families struggling to make it through the current financial
crisis can count on the Community Services Agency (CSA) of the Metro Washington
Council, says CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. “From
pre-apprenticeship job training to emergency financial assistance to prevent
evictions and utility cut-offs, CSA usually has resources,” says McKirchy. CSA
also has holiday baskets for workers in need, provides lay-off preparation for
workers facing job-loss and more. “But to provide this help, CSA relies on
contributions through the United Way and Combined Federal Campaigns, from
general donations from workers and unions, and from fundraising activities,”
says McKirchy, urging locals and members to help by giving through your worksite
campaign (United Way Designation Number 8253, CFC Designation Number 19579),
making a direct contribution (checks earmarked “Emergency Assistance Fund”
can be sent to The Community Services Agency, 888 16th Street NW, Suite 520,
Washington DC 20006), or having your local support the upcoming Holiday Basket
project and January’s “Bowling
For Gold” union bowling tournament. To donate to CSA online, click
