Virginia Hotel Workers To Rally Saturday
Friday, November 19, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Workers at the Sheraton Crystal City – who have been fighting
for a “fair, democratic and neutral process to unionize” since February 2009
– will rally this Saturday
at 5:30P in Arlington, Virginia to say “no to the jobless recovery
and yes to workers’ rights,” reports DC Jobs with Justice. “The Sheraton
Crystal City is owned by HEI, one of the fastest growing hotel ownership
companies in the country,” says UNITE HERE Local 25’s Mike Hachey. “While
HEI continues to wheel and deal, buying 2 new hotels in the past 6 months, HEI
has cut the number of jobs by more than 30% and increased workloads for
remaining workers, while increasing prices for health benefits that provide less
coverage than before. Enough is enough!” Email mhachey@unitehere.org for more
information. - photo: workers demonstrating outside the
