DC Hotel Workers Rally For Justice Today

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Workers from the Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, Starwood and several other District hotels will rally in Farragut Square at 5P today and march through downtown DC to demand a fair contract. "Management is proposing a recessionary contract even after the hotels have returned to their pre-recession profitability and occupancy levels," reports UNITE HERE Local 25's Bradley Van Waus. "They have proposed increased workloads, no increase to the pension plan - which allows workers to retire with dignity - and a 15 cent wage increase in March." Van Waus tells Union City that the Marriott has proposed contract language which would "give management the power to subcontract up to 10% of hotel services to cheaper temp employees who may or may not make a living wage." He adds, "Hotel workers are asking for modest gains to give people a shot at the American dream." Click here for details.
