DC Hotel Contract Extended 6 Months As Negotiations Continue

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Five thousand area hotel workers got some breathing room recently when UNITE HERE Local 25 and the Hotel Association of Washington extended their October 8 contract expiration until March 15. 2011. The 6-month contract extension follows two previous extensions and was necessary because the union and hotels are “miles and miles apart” on economic issues, according to Local 25 Executive Secretary-Treasurer John Boardman. Any health care increases over the next six months will be covered by the Hotel Association while bargaining continues.
