Using The Carrot To Win Paid Sick Days

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

If you haven’t participated in a Carrotmob yet, now’s your chance. Essentially a reverse boycott, Carrotmob – which comes from the idea of using “the carrot and not the stick” -- channels customers to companies that take socially responsible actions. The DC Employment Justice Center and Restaurant Opportunities Center DC -- both members of DC Jobs with Justice – are organizing a Carrotmob to reward restaurants that support providing sick days to all restaurant workers, who were left out of the Paid Sick and Safe Days Act, which passed in 2008. Featured restaurants in this Carrotmob include Busboys and Poets, Freshii, Maoz, Sei, Sticky Rice and Teaism.  The last day to vote is November 3rd; the winner will be announced on November 5th and the coalition plans to mob that site on November 13th. - Ruth Castel-Branco, DC Jobs With Justice
