Beyond Marches And Rallies
Monday, October 25, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Creative, strategic direct action has been one of the key
pillars of DC Jobs with Justice since its inception. Sometimes we have to
disrupt business as usual. Local coalitions have organized sip-ins at
restaurants to support wait staff, drive-throughs at airports to support airline
workers, sit-ins at the National Labor Relations Board offices to fight for the
right to organize and collectively bargain. Next Tuesday DC JwJ's Grassroots
Education Project is offering a unique workshop, "Beyond
Marches and Rallies, Integrating Creative Action Into Your
Campaigns," facilitated by Nadine Bloch (r), local organizer,
puppetista, non-violent direct action trainer and mother. Direct action is
transformative and key to movement-building, enabling us to demonstrate our
power and win concrete victories. The training will focus on tricks and tips for
developing strategic, creative direct actions and re-energizing your campaigns.
