New Jobs Site Questioned
Wednesday, October 13, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
A new jobs board website is not only ripping off UnionJobs.com
but is posting advertisements for building and construction trades training that
lead to non-union operations. The new site -- UnionJobBoard.com -- apparently
grabbed the majority of its initial job announcements directly from longtime
union jobs site UnionJobs.com. UnionJobBoard has also
apparently taken job announcements directly from some union websites, diverting
resumes that would have been submitted directly to the originating union. And an
advertisement for "Become an Electrician" turned out to link to a non-union,
commercial training operation. The mysterious site -- it's impossible to tell
who's actually responsible for it -- is trying to attract business with free
postings for the first 60 days, but many of the job postings and events are
months old. Legal cease and desist orders are now being issued to UnionJobBoard.
Meanwhile, UnionJobs.com has been posting job announcements -- updated daily and
submitted directly from each union -- for unions and socially allied
organizations since 1997, and is a longtime partner with Union City's popular
Hiring Hall edition. - image courtesy
