Washington Hospital Imposes On Nurses

Nurses at Washington Hospital Center (WHC) are "furious" after the hospital unilaterally imposed its wage proposal Friday. "This is clearly punishment for our vote on joining National Nurses United" said Stephen Frum of Nurses United of the National Capital Region. The hospital is effectively cutting the shift differential nurses earn for working evenings, nights and weekends, and means "wage cuts for everybody," said Frum. "It's just the latest in a series of harassing actions by the hospital in the last month, but we're not losing our focus on voting to join NNU," after which the strengthened local intends to "build a broader campaign to win a good contract" for WHC nurses.
