Wednesday, September 29, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
As tens of thousands of people from across America
prepare to gather on Washington’s National Mall this Saturday to rally for
“a new economy based on secure jobs, justice and quality education,” labor
promises to represent with a half
dozen activities already planned prior to and immediately following the
historic One
Nation Working Together event. Beginning at 9A at RFK Stadium, the
Machinists’ Union (IAMAW) and the Union of the Unemployed (UCubed) will host a
pre-event rally where organizers will distribute “JOBS NOW! signs, t-shirts
and solidarity streamers” to attendees. AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler
will lead a contingent of young workers and members of the LGBT community at a
pre-event rally starting at 10A at Freedom Plaza (14th Street, NW and
Pennsylvania Avenue, NW) and will then march to the Lincoln Memorial.
Immediately following the event, meet up with union members and activists at
Labor Notes’ celebration at Froggy Bottom Pub just a few blocks from the Mall.
