Labor Notches Big Win With Gray Victory

“The real winners Tuesday were the District’s working men and women,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams in the wake of Vincent Gray’s (r) primary victory over incumbent Adrian Fenty. The Council had coordinated labor support for the challenger over the well-funded Fenty, whose attacks on workers – especially teachers and city employees – had united the local labor movement. “Vince Gray will bring this city back together,” said Williams. “He knows that it will take all of us working together to survive and thrive as a community in these tough times.” Unions played key roles in many of the races across the metro area and across Maryland as well; look for a complete post-election report at Monday’s Metro Council meeting, 6P at the AFL-CIO, and in Tuesday’s Union City. – photo by Jahi Chikwendiu/The Washington Post
