Union Homebuyers Save
Monday, April 4, 2005(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Union members saved $8.1 million in closing costs and fees last year
alone when they got their mortgages through the Union Plus Mortgage Program.
Aside from competitive interest rates and programs for borrowers with less than
perfect credit, members using Union Plus Mortgages get help in completing the
deal (especially useful for first-time buyers), easy application process, down
payments as low as 5 percent (lower for qualified buyers), $350 toward the
closing costs if using participating real estate agents, and fees capped at
$100. If workers are on a prolonged strike, get locked out, or are burdened by
disabilities, the Union Plus Mortgage Assistance Program offers help with
mortgage payments -- including grants and interest-free loans. For details, call
