The Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO launched a letter-writing campaign to the White House yesterday to urge President Obama to stay out of the DC Mayor’s race. “President Obama is working hard to save the jobs of millions of Americans – including record numbers of DC workers – but the only job DC Mayor Adrian Fenty cares about is his own,” the campaign says. “Trailing in the polls less than a week from election day, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty is asking for help from the White House,” reported WTOP on Wednesday. The campaign provides a link to “tell President Obama to keep his focus on America’s hard-hit working people and let District voters decide whether Fenty keeps his job.” “This is a pathetic last-ditch plea from a deeply unpopular Mayor,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams. “Begging for support from outsiders like New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and diverting the President’s attention from pressing national and global issues shows just how out of touch he is with District residents. The bottom line is that Adrian Fenty has done a lousy job as mayor and on Tuesday District voters will deliver his pink slip.” The Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO has endorsed Vincent Gray for DC Mayor. – photo by Adam Wright
