Watering The Seeds Of Unionism At Capitol Visitor Center

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Capitol Visitor Center organizing committee members distributed water to CVC workers last weekend as part of their campaign for a union. "Dehydration is potentially a major issue for many of the workers," explains AFSCME Council 26 Executive Director Carl Goldman, noting that the CVC refused to allow employees who work outside to drink water until they began organizing in June (Capitol Tour Staff Lead Way To Union 6/28 UC). Management still severely limits access to water. The vote on whether the 140 workers join AFSCME will be held next week and Goldman is cautiously optimistic. - photo courtesy CVC union organizing committee
