DC Launches "One Nation" March Plans

"One Nation aims to put America back to work and recommit every
person in America to the principles that this country was founded upon: freedom,
justice and equality for all," said Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO President
Jos Williams (at left) at yesterday's official DC launch of the One Nation Working
Together movement. "Every person in this country should be able to live
the American Dream: a secure job that allows breadwinners to support their
families, a safe home and access to excellent quality public education." On
Saturday, October 2 - under the One Nation Working Together umbrella - hundreds
of thousands of people from across the country will gather at the Lincoln
Memorial on the National Mall in Washington to demand a plan for a new economy
based on secure jobs, justice and quality education. "October 2 will be an
historic day to remember, where Latinos, African-American, Asians and working
people in general will join forces to overcome the social and economic
injustices that face all our working communities and move forward together as
One Nation," said SEIU Local 32BJ Capital Area Director Jaime Contreras (at
right). "The reality is that we cannot work in separate groups if we want to
empower all our communities." One Nation Working
Together is a new coalition of labor, community, youth, elected
officials, faith and progressive leaders and organizations, which includes more
than 150 partners. Email kemry.ONWTDC@gamil.com for more
