Union Voice: Readers Write: Novel Approach to Montana's Labor History
Wednesday, September 1, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
In response to our recent report on Cripple Creek, CO (Remembering
Cripple Creek, 8/20), Richard Laubach of AFGE 2419 sent
in information about the remnants of the miner’s union hall in Granite, Montana,
one of the area’s famous ghost towns (r). Reminds us that Ivan Doig’s new
novel “Work
Song”, which is set amid the labor strife of 1919 Butte, Montana,
provides a vivid -- if fairly clumsily-written -- rendering of contemporary life
in those towns. – photo by Thomas Lee
