Close But No Cigar

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Plenty of good guesses but no winners this week for the Quote of The Week contest. UAW founder Walter Reuther got several votes, as did John Lewis, along with Henry Ford, which was close but no cigar: actually, it was American industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1892 who said "Every manufacturer ought to remember that his fortune was not achieved by himself alone, but by the cooperation of his workmen.”
Don’t forget, these previous winners are eligible to collect prizes at tonight’s Council meeting (but must do so in person): Sharlene Kranz (12/20 winner); George Welling (1/3); Keith Romig (1/10); Carrie Biggs-Adams (1/18).
