Daycon Strikers File New Charges With NLRB

Responding to Daycon’s refusal to “rescind its unlawful
actions” and reinstate striking workers, Teamsters Local 639 has recently
filed new unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board.
“We had hoped that formal action by the Federal Government against the company
would have caused it to reconsider its approach to bargaining, but that does not
appear to be the case,” says Teamsters 639 Business Agent Doug Webber. “On
July 2, after the NLRB had informed Daycon that it was going to prosecute the
company for violating federal labor law, the union contacted Daycon and offered
to continue bargaining. We also offered to have our members return to work, but
Daycon refused to reinstate all of our members and delayed meeting with us until
July 13,” adds Webber. “On that date, it refused to engage in any bargaining
and simply told us we could ‘take or leave’ the offer that it made in
February. As such, we have filed another round of NLRB charges, but the strike
continues in protest of the company’s unlawful actions.” The Community
Services Agency is encouraging financial support for the workers – who have
been on strike for over three months – by sending donations, earmarked "IBT
Strikers" to the CSA at 888 16th Street, NW, Suite 520, Washington, DC
