The largest union representing District government employees "enthusiastically" endorsed  DC Council Chair Vincent Gray (center) for mayor last Friday. The 8,000-member District Council 20 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) called for "grown folks leadership" in announcing the endorsement. "Vince Gray, as Council Chair, has earned the respect of his peers for his mature and effective leadership," said Geo T. Johnson, Council 20's executive director. "Opposing an incumbent mayor is a serious matter," Johnson said, "But in the short time that Adrian Fenty has been mayor, he has betrayed the trust of his supporters, slammed the door on unions, and refused to accept responsibility for his own cronyism and fiscal mismanagement."
