Negotiations are “still bogged down” for the 1,600 registered nurses fighting for a new contract at the Washington Hospital Center, Stephen Frum of Nurses United of the National Capital Area said Wednesday. “While our nurses are on their third short-term contract extension, Nurses United has the vision that the union and the Washington Hospital Center will come to an agreement that improves patient care at the District’s Level One Trauma Center and is fair for nurses.” Frum told Union City, “We believe that recruiting and retaining hard-working nurses will provide continuity of care with the utmost safety in mind. Union leaders have collaborated and agreed to use any and all measures to achieve the best contract possible for its members.” The contract extension will expire on June 19. – photo: nearly 2,000 registered nurses and their supporters rallied for a new contract in front of the Washington Hospital Center on May 11; photo by Adam Wright
